Ballard has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Mechanical CAD Designer to join the Burnaby Product Development Team. 

 

This Designer will be working in a team environment creating Fuel Cell Hardware designs, custom and prototype test fixtures, unique and innovate analysis tools for the Product Development, R&D, Testing, and other Ballard departments.  This position requires skills and competencies necessary to develop innovative and complex component, layout, and design drawings employing theoretical and practical design knowledge using Pro/ENGINEER; working from concept to operational equipment within a minimal time line.  

 

The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

·          Working directly with Lead Designers and Engineers to create designs, drawings, 3D parametric models, and procuring, commissioning fixtures and assemblies

·          Interfacing with Ballard and AFCC department engineers 

·          accuracy and completeness of drawings in regards to clarity, fit, views, dimensioning 

·          Understanding engineering concepts and translating them to engineering design drawings, and operation hardware

·          Participate and contribute in design reviews

·          Working with outside vendors, machine shops and suppliers who provide custom components to Ballard

·          Review supplier data and supplier/manufacturer drawings, as required.

·          Supervision and mentoring junior designers and drafters.

 

Competencies/Qualifications Requirements:

·          B.S., or associate degree, or diploma in mechanical technology program or related field

·          7 - 10+ years related experience in design using three dimensional (3D) modeling software packages 

·          Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire and Pro/INTRALINK experience with certification of completion

·          Hands on mechanical / lab skills

·          Knowledgeable of assembly and fabrication processes

·          Experience with machine and fabrication shop practices

·          Knowledge of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) and ability to analyze basic tolerance stack-ups is an asset

·          Ability to work with minimal supervision and capable of self checking for completeness and accuracy of work produced

·          Must be an energetic, motivated, and detail orientated individual with the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision

·          Self starter with good decision making skills and the ability to take initiative and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables

·          Excellent oral and written communication and documentation skills are essential
